WhatsApp Launches Message Editing Capabilities While Testing Text-Based AI Innovations

WhatsApp has just revealed an impressive new feature that permits users to edit their messages for a total of 15 minutes post-sending. This functionality is set to become available worldwide.
According to a blog post Editing a message is straightforward; all users need to do is press and hold the sent message, followed by selecting the 'edit' option from the menu. It’s noteworthy that edited messages will show the label ‘edited’, allowing all participants in the chat to be aware of the updates. WhatsApp has confirmed that this feature is already in the process of rolling out and will reach all users shortly.

Previously, WhatsApp allowed users to delete messages, but the 'this message was deleted' alert remained in the chat, which often caused frustration. Now, with the option to edit, the experience has been greatly refined.
Earlier this week, the company also introduced plans for a new feature called 'Chat Lock' designed to enhance privacy. With this feature, users can secure their conversations in a folder protected by a password or biometric authentication, and they should not expect to receive notifications or see content from these private chats.
In February, Meta announced its plans to integrate generative AI technology into its platforms, focusing on testing text-centric AI for WhatsApp and Messenger. Interestingly, AI is likely to play a central role in the company’s future endeavors as it aims to incorporate it across its suite of applications.
