The VMAs include a new category for the first time in MTV history: Metaverse Performance of the Year Among the six nominees vying for the accolade, BLACKPINK stood out for their virtual concert titled 'The Virtual PUBG Mobile,' making them the recognized winner.
On August 28, the Prudential Center in New Jersey played host to the MTV Video Music Awards 2022, where a star-studded lineup graced the stage. In the same metaverse category, CharliXCX and Twenty-One Pilots were among the other nominees, having showcased their own concerts on Roblox. Additionally, Justin Bieber received a nomination for 'Interactive Virtual Experience,' marking his debut as an avatar in a virtual performance on the XR platform Wave.
Completing the list of nominees was Ariana Grande, who starred in the 'Rift Tour,' a three-day musical venture featured in the widely popular battle royale game, Fortnite.
