A groundbreaking initiative by a UAE healthcare company aims to launch the world’s very first Metaverse hospital.

The UAE is gearing up for the launch of its inaugural Metaverse hospital, with plans to offer medical tourism services starting this October.
Visionary innovation from Thumbay Group, which has been a fixture in the UAE healthcare sector since 1998, is behind this new hospital. The company has diversified into twenty different sectors, including areas such as health communications, technology, and medical tourism.
Patients will access the hospital using cutting-edge technologies like Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, and they will be able to interact with their healthcare providers through their digital avatars.
Dr. Thumbay Moideen, the founder and president of Thumbay Group, states, 'This will be a fully virtual hospital where individuals consult with physicians through avatars. To support medical tourism, we plan to give potential patients a virtual tour of the facility before they arrive at Thumbay.'
Moreover, this technology will benefit long-term care patients who have been bedridden for extended periods or have experienced paralysis. The hospital will equip these patients with VR and AR headsets to help them reconnect with their homes.
Dr. Moideen illustrates this with a poignant example: 'We have a case of a Sri Lankan patient who has been here for an extended time due to paralysis from an auto accident. Although he can't move, his mind is sharp. Through AR and VR, he can revisit his room back in Sri Lanka, which offers him a sense of hope to eventually return home.'
The UAE is leading the way in technological advancements, as highlighted by the announcement from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority in May this year, regarding the establishment of its headquarters. Meta is developing a new AI-driven platform designed to enhance medical research and upgrade user avatars. within The Sandbox Metaverse.
