Ubisoft Clarifies That It Will Keep Games Associated with Inactive Accounts

Recently, rumors hinted that Ubisoft might be moving towards the random cancellation of inactive accounts, potentially leading to the complete loss of users’ digital game libraries. Understandably, this has sparked significant concern among gamers. 

TA user on X (formerly known as Twitter), identified as AntiDRM, shared an email from Ubisoft indicating: \"We've noticed inactivity on your Ubisoft account linked to this email. As a result, we have temporarily halted your account and plan to close it permanently in 30 days in accordance with our Terms of Use.\"

In the notification, it was explained that users could prevent their accounts from being closed by logging in within a month of receiving the email. Once they sign in, they will need to click on the 'Cancel Account Closure' link included in the message.

Ubisoft mentioned that for 'many years' it has been deactivating accounts that have been inactive, adhering to regulations set by the General Data Protection Regulation concerning the retention of personal data.

The rumor started with a post Moreover, the company specified that only accounts which have never made any game purchases are at risk of termination. They also evaluate how long an account has been inactive and whether there's an active subscription prior to any account deletion.

Ubisoft Support replied This means that players' digital collections are safe even if their accounts aren't in use. However, while Ubisoft does allow users to counteract account closure, the potential still exists for purchased games to be erased.
