The Sandbox Collaborates with Hong Kong Universities to Foster Education in the Metaverse

In Brief

As a part of this initiative, The Sandbox is working with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Design Institute, where they will be utilizing virtual land to create a multitude of immersive experiences in the metaverse.

Among the planned activities at HKDI and HKUST within The Sandbox is a virtual graduation ceremony, engaging scientific programs, and interactive gaming experiences, complemented by seminars and workshops facilitated by the metaverse platform.

The metaverse gaming platform The Sandbox , a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, has  teamed up The partnership with leading educational institutions in Hong Kong, including HKUST and HKDI, signifies a pivotal moment for the metaverse as it continues to evolve despite a global decline in interest.

These two institutions will become part of The Sandbox's Mega City 3, which is set to launch later this month. They have formalized their collaboration through memorandums, and HKDI recently held a signing ceremony at its campus in Tseung Kwan.

One of the intriguing courses offered at HKDI focuses on the use of The Sandbox to create digital assets, titled \"Metaverse: Creating Digital Assets in The Sandbox.\" This course aims to equip students with a robust understanding of the workflow and creative market within the metaverse landscape, diving into topics such as NFTs, GameFi, and the ecosystem of The Sandbox. Learners will have the opportunity to design digital 3D assets specifically tailored for metaverse environments, and they will also acquire skills in animation and rendering with appropriate visualization techniques. According to the company based in Hong Kong, Mega City will prioritize educational initiatives. The newly acquired virtual spaces will serve as a platform to educate students on various aspects of the metaverse. Anticipated activities include a virtual graduation ceremony for HKDI, innovative scientific programs, and engaging gaming experiences at HKUST. Additionally, The Sandbox will organize seminars and workshops at each institution.

The upcoming Mega City 3 launch and new collaborations by The Sandbox align with their vision to make their virtual world accessible, allowing users to engage in diverse experiences and self-publish their content without needing direct oversight from the company.

Even with a decline in excitement around the metaverse and a downturn in crypto and NFT valuations over the past year, The Sandbox is committed to showing that its metaverse and cryptocurrency, Sand, are more than just fleeting trends. The platform seems to have weathered the crypto winter remarkably well.

Additionally, there are plans to introduce a new VR course as part of the MetaHKUST initiative, which aims to link campuses in Hong Kong and Guangzhou through a metaverse platform.

Last year, HKUST  revealed Meta is collaborating with residents in Hong Kong to spark greater global engagement with the metaverse.
