In a noteworthy collaboration, Telos has allied with Ponos Technology to pioneer an Ethereum Layer 2 zkEVM network that employs hardware acceleration.
In Brief
Ponos Technology excels in crafting end-to-end optimized solutions for ZK proving, fundamentally achieved through FPGA acceleration, which significantly enhances business value through computational efficiency and optimized resource management thanks to their synergistic hardware-software modules and dedicated execution settings. The talented team comprises highly experienced scientists and industry professionals with rich technical insights into ZKPs.

The ambitious plans for the new network were revealed during a live session at TOKEN2049 in Dubai, where Telos proudly holds the title of official sponsor.
Today, the Telos Foundation revealed its collaboration with Ponos Technology, a leading name in the realm of Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP) research and development. Together, they are embarking on the creation of a fully optimized hardware-accelerated Ethereum Layer 2 network that will feature SNARKtor, a decentralized recursive proof aggregator developed by Telos. This partnership will employ a hardware-software co-design strategy aimed at unlocking vast potential for scalability, enhanced data protection, and trustless interoperability for Ethereum users around the world.
Ponos Technology is known for providing comprehensive, optimized solutions for ZK proof generation, mainly utilizing FPGA acceleration. This method is designed to enhance business outcomes through efficient computational optimization, harmonizing hardware-software modules and dedicated execution setups. Their team includes a diverse mix of seasoned scientists and adept industry experts, boasting in-depth knowledge about all things related to ZKPs.
Slobodan Lukovic, the co-founder and CEO of Ponos Technology, remarked, \"The rise of Zero Knowledge technology is inevitable, and it holds immense potential for boosting efficiency and security across a spectrum of industries. Just like artificial intelligence, ongoing improvements in algorithms combined with advancements in foundational hardware will facilitate the mainstream adoption of ZKPs in the near future.\"
Telos is set to collaborate with several other partners throughout the development process, including:
- Digital M.O.B. – Regarded as one of the most formidable Ethereum development teams globally, they've previously contributed to projects such as MetaMask, MakerDAO, and Gnosis.
- ATKA – A Paris-based web3 incubator known for nurturing top-tier projects like Morpho and Mangrove, with whom Telos established a strategic alliance in March 2024.
- Cometh – A distinguished development team led by Jerome de Tychey, President of ETH France, who became part of Telos as a technical adviser on the EVM in March 2024.
John Lilic, the Executive Director of Telos and a key figure behind pioneering projects at ConsenSys and Polygon, as well as a Top 50 Web3 angel investor, will oversee and guide this transformational initiative. He will be collaborating closely with Alberto Garoffolo, who heads ZK technology at Telos and is a co-author of significant resources, alongside Jesse Schulman, the Chief Technology Officer and Head of Engineering. SNARKtor whitepaper \"To truly maximize the performance of zkEVM at a grand scale, Ethereum must adopt a holistic hardware-software co-design strategy,\" Lilic stated. \"This is the methodology we're employing with Ponos Technology and our expanding network of partners as we work on the hardware-accelerated zkEVM Layer 2. We are confident that our approach, combined with the groundbreaking advancements our team is making with recursive proofs through SNARKtor, will deliver invaluable services to the Ethereum community and beyond.\"
Founded in 2018 through a 'fair drop' network launch that excluded ICOs or token sales, Telos has evolved over the past six years under the stewardship of the Telos Foundation. They have successfully facilitated the growth of two primary networks: Telos EVM and Telos Zero, and are now directing efforts towards building a high-performing, succinctly provable Layer 2 zkEVM.
Following the TOKEN2049 event, further updates regarding the Telos Layer 2 network will be shared leading up to the EthCC in July, where Telos serves as a major sponsor. During EthCC in Brussels, the Telos team aims to showcase their inaugural demonstration of SNARKtor ahead of the official launch of the Telos Layer 2 network.
Telos represents a decentralized blockchain ecosystem, housing Telos EVM, known for achieving the fastest Ethereum Virtual Machine globally, along with its rapid consensus layer, Telos Zero. The initiative also prioritizes expanding its functionalities with innovative Zero Knowledge technology through the establishment of a hardware-accelerated Ethereum Layer 2 network driven by SNARKtor, significantly enhancing privacy and scalability for diverse applications. The Telos Foundation governs the project, a community-focused entity dedicated to the advancement of the Telos blockchain network.
