Starknet is all set to enhance its mainnet to version v0.13.3 on November 27, introducing a cost-effective method of gas known as Blob gas that will be five times cheaper for users.
In Brief
The Starknet team has officially confirmed that the mainnet upgrade to version v0.13.3 will take place on Wednesday, November 27. This upgrade is particularly exciting as it will introduce Blob gas at a dramatically reduced price.

Ethereum Layer 2 network Starknet The mainnet will witness a significant upgrade to version v0.13.3 on November 27, which will roll out Blob gas at a cost that is five times lower than what users currently pay on Starknet.
While the news is promising, certain node operators need to take a few preliminary steps:
What Is The V0.13.3 Upgrade?
In addition, from v0.13.3 onwards, Starknet will be sending compressed state differences to Layer 1. To adhere to the principle of charging users only for what they add to state differences, there will be an extra 25% discount on top of the existing squashing discount. This combination results in a total blob gas cost reduction of five times, calculated based on the compressibility of the recent state differences observed on the mainnet.
Moreover, Starknet v0.13.3 will see a slight modification in how state differences are encoded. This adjustment serves two key purposes: optimizing the encoding for better alignment with the new compression scheme—reducing the length of header felts post state updates—and allowing the encoding structure to be solely reliant on the state differences without needing the global chain state.
Starknet operates as a Layer 2 network built atop Ethereum, utilizing a ZK-rollup scaling solution. This innovative approach empowers decentralized applications (dApps) to scale effectively while ensuring security by consolidating transactions into an off-chain computed STARK proof. Lately, it has been refining its roadmap towards focusing short-term efforts on minimizing transaction costs.
