Sky Mavis has formed four new Web3 gaming partnerships and has shared plans to enhance the capabilities of the Ronin Network.
In Brief
Four developers—Directive Games, Tribes Studio, Bowled.io, and Bali Games—are set to create and launch blockchain-driven games on the Ronin platform.
Notably, most of the upcoming titles will not utilize Axie Infinity's intellectual property.
The Ronin blockchain has transitioned to a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) model, improving its performance and security.

Following their recovery from the high-profile Ronin network breach of the previous year, Sky Mavis is excited to announce four new gaming partnerships and an upgraded Ronin blockchain, aiming to foster a thriving game development ecosystem.
The shift from a proof-of-authority model, where validators were chosen based on trust, to a delegated proof of stake (DPoS) system means that anyone who possesses at least 250,000 RON can become a validator and participate in generating new blocks. Moreover, all RON token holders can stake their assets and engage in the validator selection process. Participants can begin staking RON today, with rewards commencing on April 12.
The impressive rise of Axie Infinity has showcased Sky Mavis's proficiency in scaling gaming infrastructure, and now the company is extending its technology to encompass other game studios. The initial group of developers collaborating on Ronin includes Directive Games, Tribes, Bali Games, and Bowled.io. Although these studios have the option to leverage Axie's IP, the majority are focusing on creating unique games with their own intellectual properties.
- Directive Games, founded in 2014 by seasoned developers from top-tier firms like CCP Games and LucasArts, is set to launch its multiplayer shooter titled 'The Machines Arena' on the Epic Games Store, catering to Ronin users. Chief Product Officer Kent Byers explained to Decrypt that players can immerse themselves in the game without a prior understanding of tokens or NFTs, still earning assets as they progress. Web3 features for the game Additional announcements will follow in the coming months.
- Tribes, the second studio, was founded by an ex-executive from King and Scopely, known for managing player experience on popular games like 'Candy Crush Saga'. This studio will introduce community-focused gaming experiences stemming from their IP, including an open-world MMO called 'Tribesters: Island of Solas'.
- Bali Games, creators of the wildly successful 'Anipang' series with $1.8 billion in revenue and over 130 million downloads, is the standout among the four studios for its decision to incorporate the Axie Infinity IP into its puzzle games, looking to develop the Axie narrative further within Korea. They have a history of expanding prominent IPs like Disney Pop and BT21.
- Finally, Sky Mavis is making strides into the sports gaming sector in India through a collaboration with Bowled.io, a social platform revolving around sports where fans can engage with games, possess in-game sports assets, and connect with their favorite sports influencers. The first offering will be a cricket game, with plans for basketball and soccer titles to come.
The $625 million hit Sky Mavis suffered from last year's Ronin network breach is being countered by these new partnerships with gaming studios, reflecting the company's resilience. Since the incident, Sky Mavis has been focused on establishing itself as an antifragile and zero-trust entity. They've disclosed in their newsletter that a series of stringent internal security protocols have been enacted to thwart any future breaches, with all code undergoing thorough review and optimization alongside security audits of their entire system architecture.
Discussing the restoration of trust with their partners post-incident, Sky Mavis COO and co-founder Aleks Larsen remarked, 'Our partners have faith in us now because we have navigated through challenges and effectively resolved our issues, which stands in contrast to many others.' Fortune After implementing three comprehensive audits since the security breach, Sky Mavis ensured that the Ronin network was restored by June of last year, with all user assets securely backed 1:1 by the newly developed bridge.
