The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is broadening its digital tourism initiatives in partnership with ARCore to create AI-enhanced augmented reality tours. The tours are powered by ARCore and Geospatial Creator and are conveniently available on the Visit Singapore Travel Guide app.
Previously, STB and Google unveiled previews of two innovative AR experiences at the Victoria Theatre and Merlion Park, allowing travelers to enjoy guided tours via their mobile devices. At the Great Emporium stop, they can be amazed by an AR-enhanced life-sized bumboat and learn about the pivotal role the Singapore River has played in the city’s history.
Merli also reveals some lesser-known treasures, like the Peranakan Tile Gallery, a local business in Chinatown featuring salvaged tiles from old shophouses. At Maxwell Food Centre, an interactive AR map directs visitors to the best hawker food choices, making it easier for newcomers to navigate the extensive selection. Singapore’s What's more, this newly launched AR experience merges the capabilities of Google’s ARCore Geospatial API and Visual Positioning Service (VPS).
