Furthermore, the researchers crafted a spherical treadmill to replace conventional controls, enabling the mice to traverse the virtual realm. The animals are positioned on a soft orb that rolls freely in every direction, even as they remain stationary while donning the headset. A motion sensor is incorporated at the base of the sphere to track its movement, allowing the mice to influence the in-game camera through their activity.
According to the research team, this tool was instrumental in studying mouse behavior within the virtual landscapes. While the results of this investigation have yet to be published, the researchers have indicated that they will share their findings soon.
