The Centre for Long-Term Resilience has recently shared insights regarding anticipated trends for 2024.
2023
Understanding the current circumstances we face is essential for building resilience and addressing individual challenges. People often encounter various obstacles in both personal and professional settings, such as self-doubt and mental health struggles. Thus, the skill to recover from challenges is increasingly recognized as a crucial method of coping.
In recent years, society has witnessed a significant transformation in its perceptions of mental health. The stigma that once surrounded these issues has diminished, paving the way for more inclusive conversations. This cultural shift is anticipated to continue gaining momentum into 2024, rather than being a mere trend.
Mental Health Challenges As technology progresses rapidly, the line between personal and professional lives blurs, making it increasingly challenging for individuals to maintain a healthy work-life balance. This ongoing battle is highlighted as we approach 2024, exacerbated by shifts in employment dynamics such as the rise of remote working.
Work-Life Balance Finding equilibrium between personal duties and work commitments is a widespread struggle across different sectors. Long hours, increased workloads, and constant connectivity through technology have made it difficult for individuals to disengage from work and recharge. This imbalance can significantly impact personal relationships, mental well-being, and overall satisfaction in life.
Procrastination and Time Management
Both procrastination and time management issues are prevalent challenges that can hinder growth in both professional and personal domains. The continuous cycle of delaying tasks, missing deadlines, and feeling overwhelmed can heighten stress and diminish productivity. However, one positive development for 2024 is the rise of time management and productivity apps which assist individuals in overcoming procrastination and achieving their goals. Procrastination refers to the act of delaying tasks or decisions, often linked to motivation issues, fear of failure, or difficulties in prioritization. Those who struggle with managing their time effectively frequently experience overwhelm and a sense of inefficiency.

I was glad to have the chance to deliver some brief closing comments at the UK’s event.
Here’s a (slightly revised) recap of my comments, including my expectations leading up to the next summit in half a year: #AISafetySummit yesterday (I start speaking around 52:00)
This analysis is impressively swift and helpful, though it primarily evaluates companies' expressed intentions to abide by best practices rather than providing concrete evidence of their compliance—so it may be somewhat optimistic to claim they are already adhering to these practices. https://t.co/KTs5ZRNA4d
I resonate with many of Jack’s insights regarding the actions the UK’s foundation model taskforce should undertake—there’s a unique opportunity here for independent experts to develop the capacity to scrutinize and evaluate advanced models effectively to better understand risks and keep labs accountable. https://t.co/rJnsqczjFi
