Paradigm Unveils Its Research-Driven Policy Lab for Essential Guidance

In Brief

Paradigm, a venture capital firm focusing on cryptocurrencies, has launched a dedicated Policy Lab aimed at investigating significant challenges within the crypto landscape.

According to Paradigm, the Policy Lab serves as a collaborative hub for academics, policy specialists, attorneys, and technology experts.

Cryptocurrency investment firm Paradigm has introduced its Policy Lab, which it describes as 'a meeting point for scholars, policy advisors, legal practitioners, and tech developers.'

The Policy Lab is set to perform research centered on policy matters that are crucial to the future of the cryptocurrency sector.

Co-led by Brendan Malone and Rodrigo Seira, the Policy Lab aspires to reshape and enhance the regulatory framework surrounding cryptocurrencies.

"With the establishment of our Policy Lab, we aim to reinforce our commitment to policy and address the gaps in current policy discussions by delivering thorough research to guide pivotal decisions,\" noted Rodrigo during the launch event. tweet .

In conjunction with the launch, the Policy Lab revealed its inaugural fellows, consisting of Primavera De Filippi from Harvard and Agostino Capponi from Columbia, who will investigate 'regulatory equivalence'—a study of how legal and technological frameworks can align to produce similar regulatory results. Academic Fellowship Program Participants in the fellowship program will enjoy a stipend of $60,000 over the initial six months, comprising $50,000 for discretionary spending and an additional $10,000 allocated for attending conferences or conducting research travel.

Fellows will gain access to valuable resources from Paradigm, including data support, technical assistance, offsite collaborations with Policy Lab personnel, and invitations to exclusive Lab events and discussions.

Moreover, the Policy Lab plans to initiate targeted research addressing key policy inquiries regarding the future trajectory of the cryptocurrency sector. Each Research Topic will be considered for grant funding of up to $5,000. At present, the Research Hub is particularly interested in analyzing TradFi costs, the risks posed by the existing policy landscape in the U.S., and establishing clear definitions for crypto-specific terminology.

Paradigm has actively voiced its opinion on numerous regulatory matters in the United States. In August, the firm, alongside a16z, submitted an amicus brief in the ongoing debate. Research Hub To steer its policy research, Paradigm has assembled an advisory board that includes notable banking figures and former U.S. government officials.

Prominent members of this advisory council include Paul Ryan, the former Speaker of the U.S. House; Chinwe Esimai, the Chief Compliance Officer for Citi's Legacy Franchises; and Pat Toomey, the ex-Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee, among others.
