OpenAI has rolled out a highly sophisticated AI chatbot known as ChatGPT, sparking conversation and interest across various platforms.

OpenAI's approach includes supervising initial model training with human AI trainers who simulate the user and assistant roles during chats, using guidelines that help shape their responses.

In order to create a reward model for reinforcement learning, it was crucial to obtain comparison data. This included evaluating multiple responses from the model based on quality. The developers collected transcripts of conversations that AI trainers had with the chatbot to compile this information. They randomly selected a model-generated response, gathered several possible conclusions, and tasked AI trainers with ranking these responses. This enables the adjustment of the model via Proximal Policy Optimization using the generated reward models.
