Moonbirds and Oddities Implement Creative Commons Licensing for Their Community
The NFT projects Moonbirds and Oddities have recently adopted a Creative Commons license.
In a tweet, Kevin Rose, one of the project’s co-founders, expressed, 'This decision acknowledges and respects the values inherent in the internet and web3, marking a significant and transformative stage for us.'
After making this announcement, Rose elaborated on the conventional ways creators protect their intellectual property—such as through patents or copyrights—and suggested that Web3 might fundamentally rethink these established norms.
As a result, in the foreseeable future, owners of Moonbirds NFTs will be empowered to leverage the artwork for various creative endeavors. While the Creative Commons licensing doesn't extend to trademarks, the organization plans to establish the Moonbirds DAO to supervise the licensing of both the Moonbirds and Oddities brands. Additionally, they intend to promote broad commercial use while also combating fraud, hate speech, and violence.
Moonbirds is an NFT collection consisting of 10,000 profile picture artworks, each boasting unique traits. Following the project's remarkable success, the team introduced the Moonbirds Oddities collection as 'companions' to the original owls.
The current minimum price for the Moonbirds NFT collection stands at 15.7 ETH, which is roughly $26,000 based on recent conversions, and the total trading volume has reached an impressive 162.3K ETH.



Other NFT collections, such as and CrypToadz, also offer CC0 licenses to their holders. Earlier this year, RTFKT, the community-driven organization behind the CloneX project, granted full commercial rights to NFT holders. Chain Runners , Nouns Furthermore, the company provided high-quality 3D assets that can be utilized in development platforms like Unreal Engine or Unity.
