Meta Lets Users of Horizon Sell Virtual Goods

Meta, the company previously referred to as Facebook, is currently putting new features through trials that will enable creators to earn money in Horizon Worlds (formerly known as Facebook Horizon). This platform represents a free online game in the Metaverse created by Meta Platforms specifically for Oculus users. It can be experienced in full 3D with devices like the Oculus Rift S or Oculus Quest 2, taking advantage of the headset's motion tracking technology.

Horizon Worlds is designed as a social space, fostering collaboration and creativity among players. Users have been observed crafting an array of items within this virtual universe, ranging from unique jewelry to exclusive access passes for VIP areas in personal user worlds.

Following Roblox and Rec Room Similar to other platforms that grant creators the chance to sell their creations, Meta has indicated that creators on Horizon will also be able to monetize the items they develop.

Horizon will retain 25% of each sale after deducting the App Store fee of 30%. Consequently, creators will earn 45% from the transactions, which is less than half of the total. Nevertheless, Meta's leadership is confident that this commission structure remains competitive for creators.

In February 2022, Horizon Worlds reached a milestone of 300,000 monthly active users and boasted around 10,000 unique worlds. Currently, Meta is looking to expand the Horizon experience to mobile devices and gaming consoles.
