With Lenovo’s Project Chronos, users can instantly become avatars with real-time capabilities.

In Brief

Lenovo makes its mark in the metaverse with the launch of Project Chronos.

Project Chronos offers users the ability to project themselves into virtual spaces, all without the need for any wearables.

The metaverse is quickly gaining popularity, and Lenovo is eager to jump in with Project Chronos, which creates avatars for users. The catch? It operates without glasses, hands, or any additional gear. Project Chronos At CES, Lenovo showcased a variety of remarkable technological advancements, and among them was Project Chronos. This compact gadget allows users to transport themselves into the metaverse as lifelike avatars without the need for bulky motion-capture gear. Instead, it employs a camera to monitor movements seamlessly.

Thanks to the cutting-edge 13th Gen Intel® Core™ processor, Project Chronos brings a glasses-free experience that captures full-body movements, empowering users to control their avatars in real-time without relying on motion-capture accessories.

These avatars are designed to replicate every gesture, stance, and facial expression with impressive immediacy. However, it's important to note that the technology still has room for improvement: some movements appear a bit awkward, and facial expressions don’t translate perfectly. As one observer pointed out, 'the smile on one person looked more eerie than inviting.'

While there’s no confirmed launch date yet, spokesperson Jeff Witt indicated that it should be available sometime by the close of 2023, although pricing details remain undisclosed.
