Italy’s Serie A soccer league has ventured into virtual reality with its very first match broadcast in the metaverse.

This past weekend, Serie A celebrated a historic moment by being the first league to present a match in the immersive realm of the metaverse.
On Sunday, the iconic San Siro Stadium hosted a thrilling match between Serie A giants Milan and Fiorentina, which was exclusively accessible to fans located in North Africa and the Middle East via the dedicated ‘Serie A room’ in The Nemesis metaverse.
Thanks to the partnership with their official sponsor, TIM, and along with the expertise of blockchain agency ConsenSys, a multitude of fans were able to witness the match live and engage with interactive elements within the ‘Serie A room.’
Serie A's CEO, Luigi De Siervo, expressed pride in their pioneering move, stating, \"We have decided to be the first to stream a soccer match in the metaverse because we believe pushing the envelope of technological innovation is vital for a modern league like Serie A.\" said De Siervo further noted, \"The Middle East and North Africa region holds strategic significance for us due to the strong presence of Generation Z and their openness to new technologies.\"
The match concluded with a narrow 1-0 victory for Milan, putting them in a stronger position for the national championship.
Basketball organizations are also diving into the virtual realm; earlier this year, the Brooklyn Nets made history by hosting the first-ever basketball game in the metaverse, offering fans a stunning 360-degree VR experience.
In February, the world-renowned Manchester City Football Club, which competes in the English Premier League, announced its plans to create a virtual replica of the famous Etihad Stadium in the metaverse, aiming to broadcast VR matches there in the future.
