Countries in the GPAI Have Embraced the New Delhi Declaration Related to Artificial Intelligence

During a comprehensive five-hour meeting of its ministerial council, the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) unanimously ratified the New Delhi Declaration, which zeroes in on crucial issues related to AI. potential risks This agreement, accepted by 28 nations, tackles urgent issues such as the spread of misinformation, protection of personal data, and the serious threats to human rights and democratic principles that AI may pose. This development follows a passionate plea from the Prime Minister, urging countries to collaborate in establishing a strong global AI framework.

India has also proposed to hold a Global Governance Summit under the GPAI’s banner to finalize the proposed framework within the next six months. Narendra Modi’s All member nations have unanimously agreed to the New Delhi Declaration.

Moving Towards an Inclusive AI Development Future AI applications Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India's Minister of State for Electronics and IT, emphasized the collective agreement on the New Delhi Declaration among the 29 GPAI member nations.

“This declaration is set to position GPAI at the forefront of steering both the innovation and cooperative AI progression among participating nations. Countries have pledged to deploy AI in critical sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and other shared areas of concern,” he expressed.

Significant attendees at the GPAI Summit included Jean-Noel Barrot from France, Hiroshi Yoshida, Japan's Vice-Minister for Internal Affairs, and Viscount Jonathan Camrose, who represents AI and Intellectual Property in the UK.

Barrot commended Japan for opening a third ‘expert support center’ for AI, adding to similar establishments in Canada and France. future of AI “In the upcoming months, during India's presidency of GPAI, we will explore ways to combine our expert resources with those of the OECD to enhance our capacity to devise optimal solutions for the governance and utilization of AI for the welfare of our citizens,” Barrot remarked.

Both Yoshida and Camrose highlighted the necessity of inclusivity in GPAI’s global AI development role. Yoshida shared the organization’s aspiration to “encourage greater participation from developing nations in GPAI.”

As the GPAI Summit wrapped up on Thursday, the Indian Government is preparing to present its official

policy under the India AI Program on January 10. Global dialogues on AI regulations are expected to carry on at the Korea Safety Summit scheduled for mid-2024.
