Google Maps Unveils a Groundbreaking 3D Experience
Just a few days ago, Google shared an array of exciting updates at the Google I/O event, featuring one that truly stands out. AI -driven enhancement is on the horizon for Maps, heralded as 'a completely fresh immersive perspective of the world.'
In a comprehensive blog post, Google elaborated on the features to anticipate. :
...Today, with the help of advances in AI and computer vision that enable us to combine countless Street View and aerial visuals, we’re rolling out a revolutionary method to explore with Maps. Our brand-new immersive view allows you to get a feel for what a neighborhood, attraction, restaurant, or popular spot is like, almost as if you’re actually there before you set foot in the place. Whether you’re visiting a new destination or hunting for hidden local treasures, this immersive view will empower you to make the best-informed choices ahead of your visit.
To demonstrate how this feature works, Google provided an illustrative example of a virtual trip to London. With the Maps experience, you can 'virtually glide over Westminster to get an up-close look at the stunning architecture of landmarks like Big Ben,' just as depicted in the illustrative video above. immersive The AI-enhanced features don’t stop at breathtaking visuals—immersive Maps will also incorporate a 'time slider' function, allowing users to see how the area changes throughout the day based on their planned visit time.
Google assures that the immersive view will be accessible on most devices. Rollout is set to begin in late 2022 for major cities like Los Angeles, London, New York, and Tokyo, with intentions to expand to more locations shortly afterward.
