Fabric is collaborating with Polygon Labs to unveil Verifiable Processing Units that enhance the capabilities of zero-knowledge technology.
In Brief
In a bid to promote the use of zero-knowledge proofs on AggLayer, Polygon Labs has joined forces with Fabric Cryptography.

A company focused on technological progress in the blockchain ecosystem, Polygon Labs has just announced a new collaboration with a startup that specializes in cryptography. This partnership is set to facilitate the greater use of zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) on the AggLayer. Polygon As part of this collaboration, Fabric Cryptography will implement complete end-to-end systems for the Plonky2 and Polygon Plonky3 proof systems. These systems, crafted by the core developers at Polygon Labs, are vital for the zero-knowledge technology employed throughout the Polygon network, particularly on the AggLayer. Fabric Cryptography Moreover, Polygon Labs has pledged $5 million to invest in VPU-based server systems, marking a pioneering move as the first protocol to make such a significant investment in these types of chips.
Fabric is supplying a tailored Verifiable Processing Unit (VPU) that is optimized for various cryptographic operations, such as generalized Merkle trees and the Plonk system. This unit is capable of executing large integer computations with a 900% increase in efficiency compared to standard GPUs.
Fabric’s VPUs emerge as the world’s first massively parallel processors, specifically designed for cryptographic functions, promising to outperform the typical CPUs and GPUs in both speed and efficiency.
Each VPU card integrates three FC1000 chips, with the FC1000 chip being a fully integrated system-on-chip specifically engineered to enhance proof systems at every stage of their operation. It boasts an on-chip CPU, ample memory bandwidth, and sophisticated cryptographic processing capabilities with 40 custom tiles per chip and 120 tiles per card. Furthermore, Fabric’s full-fledged compiler and software ecosystem allow for highly efficient, parallelized workloads, both at the chip level and throughout the server infrastructure.
Enhancements to the AggLayer are on the horizon, largely thanks to the introduction of Fabric’s VPUs.
As the AggLayer is still in its development phase and primarily relies on ZK proofs for its functions, the potential for speed and efficiency upgrades is significant. The introduction of advanced hardware is sure to enhance the system’s performance. Moreover, real-time ZK proving will significantly elevate user experience across different chains within the AggLayer framework by reducing completion times and streamlining overall transaction processing.
This project is an evolving interoperability protocol designed to enable secure, trustless transfers of tokens across chains, as well as facilitating message exchanges and more complex functionalities. It depends on zero-knowledge proofs to maintain its security protocols.
Currently, the AggLayer connects blockchains that are built using a toolkit tailored for developing zero-knowledge Layer 2 solutions. The protocol aspires to provide extensive interoperability moving forward, supporting a variety of blockchain architectures, including Layer 2 solutions and dedicated blockchains that do not utilize Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) architectures.
