The metaverse platform Decentraland has unveiled the long-awaited full version of its Software Development Kit (SDK) 7.

The goal of this development is to align Decentraland’s SDK with the original vision of the platform. Essentially, this toolkit aims to serve as an open standard for crafting interoperable content in the metaverse, meaning it can be utilized by any platform eager to adopt it.
Initially teased in July 2022, Decentraland's SDK was made available in its early alpha and beta stages for community evaluation.
According to Decentraland’s blog post In light of this project, a significant portion of the existing SDK had to undergo a complete overhaul. The team focused on three main principles: enhancing usability, improving performance, and ensuring portability. As a result, content creators can now collaborate using the robust scene-building tool known as Decentraland Editor. This powerful tool allows for full control over the code of any scene while maintaining a user-friendly visual interface. Additionally, the new SDK guarantees that players enjoy a seamless gaming experience. Importantly, SDK 7 is also compatible with various other platforms and engines.
Among the standout features of SDK 7 are the newly designed UI system utilizing FlexBox and the most recent version of TypeScript. These innovative tools enable users to create dynamic UI elements similar to HTML tags, providing access to an array of advanced functionalities. Furthermore, SDK 7 brings enhancements in raycasting technology and overall performance, with external JavaScript and TypeScript libraries now fully supported.
Minor improvements in SDK 7 include official backing for the AvatarShape component and the ability to retrieve the loading status of 3D models.

To celebrate this exciting launch, the Decentraland Foundation is organizing a Game Jam event, with more details set to be shared on June 19.
