The Countdown to DAO TOKYO: An Innovative Conference Hosted in a Historic Japanese Shrine with Almost 1,300 Years of Legacy

Following several months of anticipation, groundwork, and support from the global and Japanese crypto sectors, DAO Tokyo is counting down to April 13, 2023. The conference aims to connect Eastern and Western perspectives while fortifying the DAO community in Asia. Esteemed speakers from key DAO initiatives, including Gitcoin, ConsenSys, and MakerDAO, are lined up to present.

Event Venue – Kanda Myojin Shrine

Jocelyn Chang, the APAC Growth Lead at MakerDAO, expressed, 'Asia, rich with innovative projects in the blockchain arena, holds a unique chance to take a leading role in the future of DAOs. Organizing a DAO conference in this region is a crucial step toward promoting acceptance, collaboration, diversity, and innovation in DAO development.'

Matt Wright from ConsenSys DAOs shared his insights: 'DAOs have been a topic of discussion in the West for several years now. We're gradually grasping the issues they address, there are countless new resources available for contributors, and governance has become more straightforward. DAO Tokyo marks a pivotal moment as we recognize the maturity of the DAO community and extend this manifesto to Asia… I’m eager to see how this unfolds going forward…'

The event will offer candid discussions, panels, and workshops centered around DAO technology, governance mechanisms, and the intricacies of community engagement.

The organizing team for the inaugural DAO TOKYO event, Fracton Ventures, has also shared the captivating narrative that underscores this exceptional conference:

How do the circumstances and context surrounding DAOs in Japan differ from those internationally?

  • In the realm of DAOs, we aim to eliminate boundaries between Japan and other countries. However, if we were to draw a distinction, it’s apparent that overseas, DAOs are receiving increased attention. The principles of on-chain transparency, decentralized governance through tokens, and the role of smart contracts are viewed as foundational elements. Ultimately, it revolves around organized human collaboration, and even if some of these critical features are absent, the entity can still be classified as a DAO; it bears similarities to a community or a gathering.
  • How will DAO TOKYO specifically impact this scenario?
  • Pioneers and significant contributors from the DAO space will converge at Kanda Myojin in Tokyo. By harnessing the insights and experiences of crypto veterans who have navigated this landscape, the event will serve as a bridge between international perspectives and Japan's own, ultimately linking the DAOWest and DAOEast.
  • What aspects of DAO TOKYO should attendees focus on?
  • The ambiance of Kanda Myojin in the spring, the international DAO Friends who represent over half of the 400 participants, the warm vibe characteristic of DAO gatherings, and the authenticity of the setting will all contribute to a remarkable experience. Most crucially, the insightful panel discussions, which aren't readily accessible elsewhere and won't be streamed online, will provide valuable perspectives.
  • Fracton Ventures stands at the forefront of the Web3 incubator scene in Japan. Established in 2021, it is committed to nurturing a flourishing global Web3 ecosystem. Their goal is to offer support and resources to entrepreneurs and projects while forging solid relationships to position Japan as a major player in the Web3 and DAO community. They also manage a YouTube channel focused on DAOs. Since their inception, they have successfully run two incubation programs, backing 18 innovative projects. Their goal now is to broaden their global reach and unite the brightest minds in the Web3 realm.
