Copresence Launches Realistic Avatars for Gaming, Metaverse, and Video Chats

In Brief

Copresence has introduced the closed beta phase of its revolutionary platform and application, designed for digital avatar creation.

Users can effortlessly craft realistic digital representations of themselves, ideal for gaming, virtual reality, augmented reality, and more. video conferencing .

The platform leverages advanced AI-enabled tracking tools to capture real-time facial movements and non-verbal signals.

Copresence As a pioneering provider of digital avatar creation software focused on improving online communication, Copresence recently celebrated the closed beta launch of its innovative platform. Users can swiftly create a remarkably lifelike digital counterpart, a 3D model or 'digital twin' of their face, which can be utilized seamlessly across gaming, virtual reality, augmented reality, and online meetings.

This sophisticated scanning technology works with any smartphone, allowing users to deploy their digital twin on various platforms, whether it's a computer, a mobile device, or a VR headset. For game developers, this opens the door to create immersive experiences where players can embody their avatars across a range of game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine.

The platform harnesses robust AI-driven tracking technology that ensures the accurate representation of facial expressions and non-verbal signals in real time. With Copresence’s intuitive eye-contact features, users can visually gauge who is paying attention to them.

With Copresence's technology, users can trade out conventional cartoonish avatars for strikingly realistic digital likenesses. The platform prioritizes high levels of authenticity and real-time interactivity, crafting a deeply engaging and believable experience.

Copresence Stands Out as a Viable Alternative to Meta’s Digital Avatars

Copresence asserts that similar levels of quality in digital avatars have only been accomplished by major players like Meta at their research facilities, which often come with hefty price tags or remain unfinished. In contrast, Copresence aims to deliver comparable resolution using common devices. Horizon Worlds The CEO of Copresence mentioned to Metaverse Post that while the quality achieved by Meta Research is noteworthy, it is vital to address certain practical constraints that limit widespread use of their technology.

Radek Mackowiak “The current system implemented by Meta requires an expensive multi-camera setup along with considerable computational resources, which makes it impractical for the average consumer due to the costs involved. Therefore, the scalability aspect of this technology raises concerns,” Mackowiak emphasized.

He pointed out that Meta's avatars, while intended for practical applications, tend to adopt a more cartoonish style. In contrast, Copresence has designed its avatar creation and animation technology to function effectively on standard hardware by utilizing conventional rendering mechanisms rather than extravagant but impractical neural rendering techniques.

“While we recognize that elements such as the avatars' eyes and hair could be further refined, we are confident in achieving a realism that is genuinely lifelike. Our approach is centered around transforming digital communication while being conscious of resource constraints,” Mackowiak articulated.

That said, the company's CEO highlighted that their current 3D avatar technology has reached a standard that is fit for gaming, enabling players to represent themselves in a manner that was previously difficult to achieve.

Since March 2022, Copresence has been in stealth mode, developing its platform. Over the past year, they've assembled a team of elite machine learning and computer vision specialists to conduct in-depth research and create their proprietary technology.

Open Beta Launch is Scheduled for Q3 2023

Notable Fortune 500 firms and top-tier gaming studios have already shown interest in what Copresence has to offer. The closed beta phase will allow them to gather user feedback before rolling out the open beta later this year, which is aimed to include an API and a mobile application.

With an initial seed investment of $2.75 million, Copresence is on track to debut the open beta version of its avatar generation technology in the third quarter of 2023.
