China is preparing a substantial giveaway of digital yuan tokens and coupons to the tune of $700,000.

This digital version of the practice was introduced in Changzhou last June, and the city is readying for a second round of distributions amounting to the stated total.

During this upcoming giveaway, locals can expect coupons providing discounts – 30 yuan (approximately $4.30) off purchases of 100 yuan (around $14) or 50 yuan ($7) off purchases totaling 200 yuan ($28). The distribution will occur via a lottery system, encouraging residents to express their interest through the local government’s portal.

Diving into China’s ongoing efforts towards CBDC adoption, this token giveaway is set to take place from July 16 to July 20. Following this, around 10,000 residents will be awarded digital yuan tokens and coupons starting July 21.
