ChatGPT's Website Traffic Sees Its First-Ever Drop

Recently, ChatGPT has marked its first drop in traffic from its launch back in November 2022, according to Similarweb stats.
In June, there was a significant 9.7% overall traffic reduction, coupled with a 5.7% fall in unique visitors. Additionally, in May, the engagement per visitor decreased by 8.5%.
Despite this, ChatGPT still leads over Microsoft's Bing and Character.AI.

Earlier this year, ChatGPT made headlines by achieving a remarkable record achieving a staggering 100 million active users per month within just two months post-launch. This feat is unprecedented; for instance, TikTok and Instagram required nine months and two and a half years, respectively, to reach similar milestones.
Even with the decline, ChatGPT remains superior in attracting a global audience compared to Microsoft’s Bing and Character.AI, which is currently the leading alternative AI chatbot platform. Microsoft has integrated OpenAI's GPT-4 mechanism into Bing’s chat service, which is available for free.
Similarweb pointed out that although Character.AI saw an enormous 32% monthly decrease in global traffic, it still retains significantly higher visitor numbers than during its initial launch in June 2022.
The waning enthusiasm surrounding the chatbot might be due to the rise of alternative language models that have also succeeded in captivating users as they explore different generative AI tools.
After hitting a peak in early June, the downloads for ChatGPT's iPhone application have seen a downturn, as suggested by Sensor Tower data. The app launched in May, totaling 17 million downloads. Initially, the application was exclusive to iOS users located in the United States, but it achieved a milestone surged to half a million downloads in less than one week after its launch.
