Chainlink Launches CCIP V1.5 Update, Revealing the CCIP Cross-Chain Token Standard
In Brief
The CCIP v1.5 update presented by Chainlink is designed to enhance the scalability of token integration with CCIP, while also streamlining the experience for developers.

Decentralized computing platform, Chainlink Chainlink has announced the introduction of its CCIP v1.5 enhancement, which improves the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This upgrade is centered on exponentially increasing the number of tokens that can work with CCIP, while making the protocol user-friendly for developers.
The upgrade is already operational on all supported blockchain test networks and is projected to be available on main blockchain networks in the near future.
A prominent aspect of this upgrade is the introduction of the Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard. This feature empowers token developers to seamlessly integrate both newly created and existing tokens with CCIP in a self-service format within minutes. CCTs are tokens that are native to multiple chains, secured through CCIP, providing developers with self-service options, full ownership and control, better flexibility for programming needs, and slippage-free transfers—all secured by CCIP’s robust security protocols.
Notably, CCTs maintain token logic neutrality. This means token creators can utilize pre-audited token pool contracts to convert any ERC20-compatible token into a CCT. Alternatively, they have the flexibility to craft custom token pool contracts suited to specific requirements. This framework allows developers to avoid dependence on any CCIP-related code within their token's smart contract.
The New Update Introduces Token Developer Attestation and CCIP Token Manager Features, Enhancing User Experience
Additionally, CCIP v1.5 brings a new Token Developer Attestation feature that permits token developers to choose an extra layer of verification for their CCTs. This allows them to validate events such as token burns or locks on the original blockchains before CCIP can mint or unlock tokens on target chains. Currently, the Token Developer Attestation feature is in a private beta testing phase.
Once it goes live on blockchain main networks, token developers will gain access to the CCIP Token Manager, a user-friendly web platform for deploying new CCTs and managing pre-existing ones. This interface will offer step-by-step guided deployments and configuration options without requiring coding expertise. Moreover, the CCIP v1.5 upgrade includes various enhancements aimed at improving the developer experience, such as a new CCIP SDK, improvements to the CCIP Explorer, alongside additional security and privacy upgrades.
Alongside other benefits, the update brings multiple improvements to the security and functionality of CCIP, including enhancements to Risk Management Networks, Out of Order (OOO) Message Execution, and CCIP Private Transactions. CCIP Chainlink stands as the premier standard for creating, accessing, and monetizing oracle services essential for enabling hybrid smart contracts across a variety of blockchains. Its oracle networks ensure reliable connections for smart contracts to any external API, harnessing secure off-chain computations to support intricate and feature-rich applications.
Protecting assets worth tens of billions across fields like decentralized finance (DeFi), insurance, gaming, and many other sectors, it offers large enterprises and leading data providers a universal access point to every blockchain network.
