BNB Chain Unveils Community Proposal Urging Action Against Malevolent MEV Practices
In Brief
The proposal from BNB Chain highlights various strategies, such as the implementation of penalties, disconnections, and technical enhancements, aimed at mitigating the impact of harmful MEV, with an emphasis on fortifying the network and safeguarding its users.

A decentralized blockchain environment focusing on the Web3 ecosystem, BNB Chain has recommended strategies to curtail the occurrence of harmful Maximal Extractable Value (MEV) within its infrastructure.
This initiative stresses the shared responsibility of the community to discourage and penalize those who either enable or introduce detrimental MEV activities. All stakeholders, including block builders, Remote Procedure Call (RPC) nodes, validators, and decentralized applications (dApps), are encouraged to implement mechanisms for detecting and preventing such malicious MEV practices. Validators, as key proposers of blocks and recipients of related fees, have a critical role in protecting users from MEV exploits.
To tackle these issues effectively, BNB Chain advocates for the community to adopt both technological and non-technological approaches to mitigate malicious MEV. Suggested measures include disbanding harmful block builders and voting out negligent validators who fail to uphold their responsibilities.
Looking ahead, BNB Chain They also plan to roll out a new BNB Evolution Proposal (BEP) designed to technically reduce transaction vulnerability and improve mempool efficiency. In the meantime, users are encouraged to report bad actors who facilitate malicious MEV, adopt MEV-protected wallets, and steer clear of unreliable RPCs.
Changpeng Zhao Engages Community on MEV Mitigation Strategies for BNB Chain
MEV has surged into the spotlight within the blockchain and decentralized finance (DeFi) arena. It represents the utmost potential value that can be extracted from a specific DeFi protocol or smart contract by individuals or collectives. Understanding MEV is vital as it significantly influences the profitability of DeFi strategies, leading to the creation of new tools and methods aimed at optimizing returns.
However, malicious MEV practices These exploitative maneuvers are causing significant financial damages and undermining the fairness of DeFi platforms. Such practices compromise the integrity and efficiency of networks like BNB Chain as well as the greater decentralized ledger ecosystem. Retail investors, particularly those trading altcoins, have fallen prey to tactics like Sandwich attacks, incurring losses that reach hundreds of millions of dollars.
Earlier today, Changpeng Zhao, co-founder of Binance and former CEO, initiated a poll on the X platform to gauge community sentiment regarding whether BNB Chain should take decisive steps to eliminate or lessen the impact of MEV. The voting will stay open for the next 18 hours. While eradicating MEV entirely in a decentralized setting is unfeasible, there are strategies that can be employed to alleviate its adverse effects.
