BAYC and OtherSide Discords Fall Victim to Scam During Giveaway Event

On June 4, an unidentified group took over Bored Ape Yacht Club and OtherSide Discord servers. 

The hackers gained access to the Discord account of Boris Vagner, the community manager overseeing the BAYC Discord and the OtherSide Metaverse project. Exploiting Boris’ account, they disseminated fraudulent links to fake ‘limited-quantity giveaway’ offers, which were actually phishing scams. Yuga Labs The attackers successfully swindled one Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT and two Mutant Ape NFTs, racking up losses valued at around 200 ETH, which equates to approximately $400,000.

Holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs This isn’t the first instance that hackers have compromised official BAYC accounts. Earlier in April, BAYC announced a hack involving their Instagram, where attackers made off with 91 NFTs, amounting to around $2.8 million.

On April 25, a cybercriminal breached the official Discord communities of Bored Ape Yacht Club, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and Mutant Ape Kennel Club.

This morning, the official Instagram for BAYC was infiltrated by a hacker. They posted a deceptive link leading to a fraudulent copy of the BAYC website, promoting a false airdrop that tricked users into signing a ‘safeTransferFrom’ transaction, thus transferring their assets into the scammer’s wallet.
