Axie Infinity Expands to Mobile and Web3 with Its Launch on App Stores in Major LATAM and Asian Markets
In Brief
The strategy card game developed by Sky Mavis is now available on the Apple App Store across key countries in LATAM and Asia.
These regions comprise Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
In addition to this, Sky Mavis has introduced the Mavis Market, a specially curated platform where users can trade, promote, and display NFTs supported by the Ronin network.

While many mobile game developers are producing web3 titles, Sky Mavis has bucked the trend by rolling out 'Axie Infinity: Origins' on the Apple App Store, specifically targeting significant markets in LATAM and Asia including Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Venezuela, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam.
Initially, Axie Infinity emerged as a pay-to-earn NFT game where participants needed to acquire an in-game NFT asset to join the gameplay and earn cryptocurrency.
The game and its developer, Sky Mavis, faced a serious setback in March 2022 when the Ronin sidechain was breached, leading to the theft of 173,600 Ethereum and 25.5 million USD Coin, totaling roughly $620 million. Nonetheless, the Ronin network has since been restored, and Sky Mavis has taken steps to reimburse players whose crypto assets were lost during the incident.
As a title in the web3 space, Axie Infinity has witnessed a significant decline in its player base over the past year. Reports indicate that it boasted over 2 million monthly players from October 2021 to May 2022, peaking at 2.78 million in January 2022. By April 2023, the count of active players had dropped to approximately 382,091. activeplayer.io By releasing Origins as a mobile card strategy game that provides free non-NFT starter Axies for players, Sky Mavis aims to enhance accessibility and eliminate obstacles for newcomers looking to enter the Axie Infinity ecosystem.
Alongside the launch of 'Axie Infinity: Origins' on the App Store, Sky Mavis has debuted the Mavis Market, a unique marketplace where users can trade, buy, and display NFTs powered by the Ronin network.
Starting today, collectibles from third-party game developers using the Ronin network will be listed on the Mavis Market. This marketplace builds on Axie Infinity's legacy, which has achieved an impressive $4.26 billion in NFT sales to date.
"The launch of both Axie Origins on the app store and our exclusive Mavis Marketplace marks a pivotal move towards creating more inclusive and vibrant web3 gaming experiences. We are thrilled about upcoming enhancements, including the long-awaited launch of our merchandise store, and are eager to offer our community additional ways to connect with the Axie Infinity brand,\" stated Trung Nguyen, the CEO of Sky Mavis.
This announcement also coincides with Ronin's transition to a Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) model and the revelation of five game studios collaborating on four new gaming projects in March. The 'Axie Infinity: Origins' app is now ready for download via iOS devices.
Following this announcement, the price of Axie Infinity's token AXS surged by over 17%, rising from $6.90 to $8.02 before retracting slightly to $7.20 at the time of writing. successful upgrade Axie Infinity (AXS) Guide: Navigating the Leading Project in the Gaming Metaverse
