Do Americans show any excitement for the Metaverse? The survey results indicate they don't.

Axios and Momentive, the research firms behind the survey, sought to clarify public sentiment regarding the Metaverse. surveyed Over 2,500 American adults participated in this survey, and the key question posed was whether they felt the metaverse made them 'more excited or scared about the future?'
The survey results showed that most Americans felt neutral, with 58% stating they were 'neither scared nor excited.' In contrast, 32% expressed fear—significantly more than the 7% who felt excited about the metaverse.
The younger demographic, particularly those aged 18-34, exhibited more enthusiasm for the metaverse, with 14% expressing excitement, while only 8% of those aged 35 and older felt the same.
Despite the earlier surge of interest, the survey revealed a surprising 60% of respondents were not well-acquainted with the idea of the 'Metaverse.'
This unfamiliarity among Americans comes as a shock given the frequency with which the term has been discussed recently. Major tech companies, most notably Facebook, highlighted their investment in this sector after Mark Zuckerberg rebranded the social media giant to Meta in October 2021, aligning the company's future focus with the metaverse.
Many believed that the year 2022 would mark the Metaverse breakthrough after 2021's boom in NFTs. Significant players like Microsoft, Roblox, Epic Games, and Activision Blizzard are heavily investing in the metaverse, along with numerous individual investors buying virtual properties in realms like Decentraland and The Sandbox.
The future of this groundbreaking technology remains uncertain. Its full realization might require time, evolving beyond mere computer interfaces and VR headsets into something more expansive.
