May 01, 2025 Know More Qualcomm Technologies, a leader in cutting-edge innovations, collaborates with Mirrorscape to elevate the gameplay experience for tabletop RPG enthusiasts. ARcana will introduce mixed-reality features via AR glasses, enabling deeper immersion across various tabletop game genres.
Built on the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform, ARcana leverages state-of-the-art perception technologies and hand-tracking, offering players a fluid and genuine gaming adventure.
"We’re crafting a true tabletop gaming journey enhanced by the wonders of augmented reality, allowing players to unite whether they’re at the same table or continents apart,\" said Grant Anderson, the founder and CEO of Mirrorscape, in an interview with Cryptocurrencylistings.
Anderson mentions that gamers won't be confined to mundane two-dimensional boards anymore. Instead, they can build and engage with three-dimensional representations of landscapes and characters from prestigious companies like Dwarven Forge and Reaper Minis. These realistic maps and miniatures will be fixed onto players' tables, making the gameplay feel tangible whether participants are physically present or joining from their own setups.
As ARcana evolves towards the use of advanced AR glasses created by Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces, the user experience is set to become more fluid, allowing gamers to manipulate miniatures just as they would in a physical environment. The goal remains to capture the essence of traditional tabletop roleplaying games, even as we embrace digital advancements. Although the aim isn't to produce a video game, the digital setup introduces additional elements like spell visuals, weather effects, and animated traps, which Anderson calls the 'sweetening layer.'
Currently in beta, Mirrorscape's ARcana platform will soon be available across iOS, Android, and various XR ecosystems, especially those utilizing Snapdragon Spaces technology. Mirrorscape is enthusiastic about the potential of their augmented reality game and plans to present ARcana at several industry trade shows this coming season.
"Our primary focus is on mobile devices and augmented reality! This approach encourages spontaneous game sessions since players typically have their phones or tablets within reach. Imagine saying, 'Let’s continue our game from last weekend over lunch!' Our platform allows for genuine tabletop gameplay where friends can utilize realistic digital models of terrain and figures they already love. With our tools, you maintain that vital social connection—seeing and conversing with friends! This is something that other Virtual Tabletop (VTT) options rarely provide. And we're excited to unveil numerous enhancements down the line,\" stated Anderson.
Founded in Los Angeles by industry experts from Disney, Marvel Studios, SONY, and Apple, Mirrorscape harnesses augmented reality to superimpose a 3D game board—complete with characters, challenges, environments, and structures—onto any flat surface like a tabletop. Players interact with game pieces using touch controls and can communicate with others through voice chat.
