The news was shared According to an internal memo reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Apple executives believe that utilizing AI technologies may compromise sensitive information. The report also revealed that employees cannot use GitHub's AI tool, Copilot, which assists in automating code writing, a service operated by Apple's competitor, Microsoft.
It's noteworthy that Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, recently announced that the company is in the midst of developing its own AI technology. This means that soon, employees will have access to Apple's internal AI chatbot, which is aimed at streamlining their work processes.
Apple isn't alone in its concerns about the privacy implications of ChatGPT. Earlier this month, Samsung took similar measures by prohibiting its staff from using the chatbot and other equivalent AI tools following an incident involving a team member who copied code from a faulty semiconductor database and sought ChatGPT's assistance to troubleshoot the issue. ChatGPT, an AI-driven chatbot created by OpenAI, counts on Microsoft’s substantial investment of $10 billion. The bot has recently faced scrutiny over privacy issues, leading to Italy imposing restrictions due to data breaches and noncompliance with the EU’s General Data Protection Regulations. On April 28, ChatGPT launched its iOS app, which is currently accessible only to users in the U.S., with plans to expand to more countries shortly.
