This remarkable video from Unreal Engine 5 suggests a promising future for virtual reality.

What you'll watch next is a virtual interpretation of Japan’s Etchū-Daimon Station. Initially resembling a casual handheld video, the scene quickly evolves into something far more intriguing as it unfolds.
Moments later, the atmosphere shifts dramatically. The sun vanishes, eerie red lights flicker in the distance, and dim fluorescents illuminate the space, creating an immersive feel. It’s a captivating glimpse into the VR environments we can expect in the coming years.
Crafted by Lorenzo Drago, this pre-rendered scene showcases some of the most advanced software and hardware available today. Yet, the impressive capabilities demonstrated could soon be accessible for personal use.
Drago writes:
This latest environment I’ve created is loosely inspired by a real train station in Toyama, Japan. It’s powered by Unreal Engine 5, featuring Lumen lighting. I handled all aspects of the modeling, texturing, lighting, and animation for the video. The only aspect I sourced externally was the foliage, which utilizes Quixel Megascans.
When you view the video, the scenery nearly mimics reality. However, when looking at still images, you might start to notice some discrepancies that suggest it's not fully lifelike—yet these details aren’t enough to shake your belief that it's a simulation.

This entire presentation is a bold indicator of how advanced visual technology is becoming. When the Metaverse starts to resemble our actual world, one might question the purpose of stepping outside.
